കൊച്ചി: മലയാളിയുടെ നിത്യജീവിതത്തിലെ വിലാപങ്ങളെയും വിങ്ങലുകളെയും വെള്ളിത്തിരയിൽ ചിരിയുടെ മരുന്നിട്ട് അസാധാരണമാക്കിയ മഹാപ്രതിഭ ശ്രീനിവാസൻ (69) ഇനി ഓർമ. ദീർഘനാളായി അസുഖബാധിതനായിരുന്ന അദ്ദേഹം ശനിയാഴ്ച രാവിലെ എട്ടരയോടെ തൃപ്പൂണിത്തുറ താലൂക്ക് ആശുപത്രിയിൽ വെച്ചാണ് അന്തരിച്ചത്. ഉദയംപേരൂരിലെ വസതിയിൽ നിന്ന് പതിവ് ചികിത്സയ്ക്കായി കൊണ്ടുപോകുന്നതിനിടെ ശാരീരിക അസ്വസ്ഥതകൾ അനുഭവപ്പെടുകയായിരുന്നു.

Characters like Dasan and Vijayan became reflections of society itself, while films such as Sandesham articulated uncomfortable political truths with rare honesty. Even during his illness, Sreenivasan remained deeply concerned about the future of cinema and society, leaving behind a creative void that remains impossible to fill.

His mortal remains will be kept at his Thrippunithura residence before being taken to Ernakulam Town Hall for public homage at 1 p.m. He is survived by his wife Vimala, sons Vineeth and Dhyan, and daughters-in-law. As Kerala mourns, it also celebrates a man who made people laugh while compelling them to think—a legacy etched permanently into the cultural memory of Malayalam cinema.
