കുമ്പള: ട്രെയിൻ കയറാൻ പ്ലാറ്റ്‌ഫോമുകളിലേക്ക് പടികയറി കിതയ്ക്കേണ്ടി വരുന്ന യാത്രക്കാരുടെ ദുരിതത്തിന് അറുതിയാകുന്നു. കുമ്പള റെയിൽവേ സ്റ്റേഷനിൽ പുതുതായി നിർമ്മിക്കുന്ന ലിഫ്റ്റ് സംവിധാനത്തിന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തികൾ അന്തിമഘട്ടത്തിലേക്ക്. വയോധികർക്കും രോഗികൾക്കും ഗർഭിണികൾക്കും ഏറെ ആശ്വാസമാകുന്ന ഈ പദ്ധതിയുടെ 80 ശതമാനം ജോലികളും ഇതിനോടകം പൂർത്തിയായതായി റെയിൽവേ അധികൃതർ അറിയിച്ചു.

രണ്ടാം പ്ലാറ്റ്‌ഫോമിലേക്കും തിരിച്ചും യാത്ര ചെയ്യുന്നവർ നേരിടുന്ന കടുത്ത ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുകൾക്ക് ശാശ്വത പരിഹാരം കാണണമെന്ന യാത്രക്കാരുടെ ദീർഘകാല ആവശ്യത്തിനാണ് ഇപ്പോൾ ജീവൻ വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. സ്റ്റേഷൻ അധികൃതർ നേരിട്ട് റെയിൽവേ ബോർഡിന് നൽകിയ ശുപാർശയെ തുടർന്നാണ് പദ്ധതിക്ക് പച്ചക്കൊടി ലഭിച്ചത്. പ്ലാറ്റ്‌ഫോമുകളുടെ നവീകരണം, പുതിയ ഇരിപ്പിടങ്ങൾ, വിശാലമായ വിശ്രമകേന്ദ്രങ്ങൾ, ശുചിമുറികൾ എന്നിവയ്ക്ക് ശേഷം സ്റ്റേഷൻ വികസനത്തിന്റെ മൂന്നാം ഘട്ടമായാണ് ലിഫ്റ്റ് യാഥാർത്ഥ്യമാകുന്നത്.

ഏകദേശം 37 ഏക്കറോളം വരുന്ന വിശാലമായ ഭൂമിയുള്ള കുമ്പള റെയിൽവേ സ്റ്റേഷനെ ഒരു ‘സാറ്റലൈറ്റ് സ്റ്റേഷൻ’ ആയി ഉയർത്തണമെന്ന ആവശ്യവും ഇതോടെ ശക്തമായിരിക്കുകയാണ്. മംഗളൂരുവിനും കണ്ണൂരിനുമിടയിൽ ഇത്രയേറെ സ്ഥലസൗകര്യമുള്ള മറ്റൊരു സ്റ്റേഷൻ ഇല്ലെന്നത് കുമ്പളയുടെ വികസന സാധ്യതകൾ വർദ്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. പാസഞ്ചേഴ്സ് അസോസിയേഷനും വ്യാപാരികളും സന്നദ്ധ സംഘടനകളും വർഷങ്ങളായി ഈ ആവശ്യമുന്നയിച്ച് റെയിൽവേ മന്ത്രാലയത്തെ സമീപിച്ചുവരികയാണ്.

സമീപത്തെ ഏഴോളം പഞ്ചായത്തുകളിൽ നിന്നുള്ള യാത്രക്കാരുടെ ഏക ആശ്രയമാണ് ഈ സ്റ്റേഷൻ. മംഗളൂരുവിലെ കോളേജുകളിലേക്ക് പോകുന്ന നൂറുകണക്കിന് വിദ്യാർത്ഥികൾക്കും ചികിത്സയ്ക്കായി ആശുപത്രികളെ ആശ്രയിക്കുന്ന രോഗികൾക്കും പുതിയ ലിഫ്റ്റ് വലിയ തുണയാകും. പടികൾ കയറാൻ വയ്യാത്തതിനാൽ പലപ്പോഴും ട്രെയിൻ യാത്ര ഒഴിവാക്കിയിരുന്നവർക്ക് പുതിയ സൗകര്യം വലിയൊരു ആശ്വാസവാർത്തയാണ്. ലിഫ്റ്റ് കൂടി പ്രവർത്തനസജ്ജമാകുന്നതോടെ ഉത്തരമലബാറിലെ പ്രധാന റെയിൽവേ കേന്ദ്രങ്ങളിലൊന്നായി കുമ്പള മാറുമെന്ന പ്രതീക്ഷയിലാണ് യാത്രക്കാർ.

The long-standing hardship of passengers climbing steep stairs to reach the platforms at Kumbla Railway Station is finally coming to an end. Construction of a new lift system at the station has reached its final stage, with nearly 80% of the work already completed, according to railway officials.

The lift will be a major relief for senior citizens, patients, pregnant women, and others who find it difficult to use the stairs, especially while accessing the second platform. The project was approved following recommendations sent directly by station authorities to the Railway Board, after repeated complaints from passengers about the inconvenience.

Kumbla Railway Station, which has around 37 acres of available land, is also being strongly proposed as a potential ‘satellite station’ due to its strategic location and vast space — unmatched by any other station between Mangaluru and Kannur. Passenger associations, traders, and social groups have been consistently urging railway authorities to approve the project.

The station is the main rail hub for residents of nearly seven nearby panchayats. Hundreds of students travelling to Mangaluru colleges, as well as patients visiting hospitals, rely on this station daily. Many elderly and physically weak passengers who earlier avoided train travel due to the difficulty of using stairs are expected to benefit greatly from the new lift.

Passengers now hope that once the lift becomes operational, Kumbla will emerge as one of the key railway centres in North Malabar.
