2020 മെയ് 5-നായിരുന്നു നാടിനെ നടുക്കിയ ഈ അക്രമം അരങ്ങേറിയത്. കോവിഡ് വ്യാപനം തടയുന്നതിനായി കണ്ടൈൻമെന്റ് സോണായി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ച മധൂർ എസ്.പി. നഗറിൽ പരിശോധനാ ഡ്യൂട്ടിയിലായിരുന്നു പൊലീസുകാരായ അബ്ദുൽ വഹാബും സനൂപും. ഹെൽമെറ്റോ മാസ്‌കോ പോലുമില്ലാതെ നിയമം ലംഘിച്ച് ബൈക്കിലെത്തിയ പ്രതിയോട് വാഹനം നിർത്താൻ പൊലീസുകാർ ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടു. എന്നാൽ, വാഹനം നിർത്തുന്നതിന് പകരം അതിവേഗത്തിൽ മുന്നോട്ട് ഓടിച്ച പ്രതി, ഡ്യൂട്ടിയിലുണ്ടായിരുന്ന സിവിൽ പോലീസ് ഓഫീസർ സനൂപിന്റെ ദേഹത്തേക്ക് മനഃപൂർവം ബൈക്ക് ഓടിച്ചു കയറ്റുകയായിരുന്നു.

അസിസ്റ്റന്റ് സെഷൻസ് ജഡ്ജ് പ്രിയയാണ് വിധി പ്രസ്താവിച്ചത്. ഇന്ത്യൻ ശിക്ഷാനിയമത്തിലെ സെക്ഷൻ 353 (ഔദ്യോഗിക കൃത്യനിർവഹണം തടയുക), സെക്ഷൻ 333 (ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥനെ മാരകമായി പരിക്കേൽപ്പിക്കുക) എന്നീ വകുപ്പുകൾ പ്രകാരമാണ് ശിക്ഷ. പ്രോസിക്യൂഷനുവേണ്ടി അഡ്വക്കേറ്റ് വേണുഗോപാലനും അഡ്വക്കേറ്റ് അഞ്ജലിയും ഹാജരായി.
