ശനിയാഴ്ച ഔസയിൽ വെച്ച് ഗോവിന്ദ് യാദവ് എന്ന ഹിച്ച്ഹൈക്കർക്ക് ലിഫ്റ്റ് നൽകിയ ഗണേഷ്, മദ്യം നൽകി അദ്ദേഹത്തെ അബോധാവസ്ഥയിലാക്കി. തുടർന്ന്, ഗോവിന്ദിനെ ഡ്രൈവിങ് സീറ്റിലേക്ക് മാറ്റിക്കിടത്തിയ ശേഷം കാറിന് തീകൊളുത്തി കൊലപാതകം നടപ്പാക്കി. പോലീസിനെ തെറ്റിദ്ധരിപ്പിക്കാനായി, താൻ മരിച്ചെന്ന് വരുത്താൻ തൻ്റെ ബ്രേസ്ലെറ്റ് മൃതദേഹത്തിനടുത്ത് ഉപേക്ഷിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.

A chilling crime reminiscent of Kerala’s infamous Sukumara Kurup case has shocked Maharashtra. Ganesh Chavan, a bank recovery agent from Latur, was arrested for brutally murdering an innocent hitchhiker and setting him on fire inside a car to fraudulently claim ₹1 crore in insurance money.
The case came to light after a completely burnt car with a charred body inside was found in Ausa taluk of Latur district. Since the car belonged to Ganesh and his bracelet was found near the body, police initially believed that Ganesh himself had died and handed over the body to his family. Cyber investigation later confirmed that Ganesh was secretly chatting with her from an alternate phone number, raising suspicion that he was alive.

After taking a ₹1 crore insurance policy, he decided to fake his own death. On Saturday, he offered a lift to Govind Yadav, a hitchhiker, intoxicated him with alcohol, placed him in the driver’s seat, and set the car on fire. To mislead investigators, Ganesh planted his own bracelet near the victim’s body.
A murder case has been registered, and police are probing whether anyone else assisted him and whether similar insurance fraud attempts were made earlier. The crime has sparked widespread outrage, highlighting how greed for money can lead to extreme moral collapse, even as the country remains focused on election-related debates and democratic processes.
