ന്യൂഡൽഹി: ദേശീയപാതകളിലെ യാത്രക്കാരുടെ ക്ഷമ പരീക്ഷിക്കുന്ന ടോൾ പ്ലാസകളിലെ നീണ്ട ക്യൂവും തർക്കങ്ങളും ഇനി ഓർമ്മയാകുന്നു. ടോൾ നൽകാനായി വണ്ടി നിർത്തുകയോ വേഗത കുറയ്ക്കുകയോ വേണ്ടതില്ലാത്ത വിപ്ലവകരമായ എഐ (AI) അധിഷ്ഠിത ടോൾ പിരിവ് സംവിധാനം 2026 അവസാനത്തോടെ രാജ്യത്തുടനീളം നടപ്പിലാക്കും. കേന്ദ്ര ഉപരിതല ഗതാഗത മന്ത്രി നിതിൻ ഗഡ്‌കരി രാജ്യസഭയിൽ അറിയിച്ച ഈ പ്രഖ്യാപനം ഇന്ത്യൻ ഹൈവേകളുടെ മുഖച്ഛായ മാറ്റുന്ന വലിയൊരു ചുവടുവെപ്പാണ്. ഇതോടെ ടോൾ പ്ലാസകളിൽ കാത്തുനിൽപ്പില്ലാതെ യാത്രകൾ കൂടുതൽ വേഗതയുള്ളതും സുഗമവുമാകും.

‘മൾട്ടി-ലെയ്ൻ ഫ്രീ ഫ്ലോ ടോൾ’ എന്ന നൂതന സാങ്കേതികവിദ്യയാണ് ഈ മാറ്റത്തിന് പിന്നിൽ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നത്. നിലവിൽ ഫാസ്ടാഗ് ഉണ്ടെങ്കിലും സ്കാൻ ചെയ്യുന്നതിനായി ടോൾ ബൂത്തുകൾക്ക് മുന്നിൽ വാഹനം പതുക്കെയാക്കേണ്ടി വരാറുണ്ട്. എന്നാൽ പുതിയ രീതിയിൽ ഹൈവേകളിൽ സ്ഥാപിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള പ്രത്യേക എഐ ക്യാമറകളും സെൻസറുകളും വാഹനത്തിന്റെ വേഗത കുറയ്ക്കാതെ തന്നെ ഫാസ്ടാഗ് തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞ് ലിങ്ക് ചെയ്ത അക്കൗണ്ടിൽ നിന്ന് പണം ഈടാക്കും. മണിക്കൂറിൽ 80 കിലോമീറ്റർ വേഗതയിൽ പായുന്ന വാഹനങ്ങളിൽ നിന്ന് പോലും തടസ്സമില്ലാതെ ടോൾ ഈടാക്കാൻ ഈ സംവിധാനത്തിന് കഴിയും.

ഈ പരിഷ്കാരം യാത്രക്കാർക്ക് വലിയ തോതിലുള്ള നേട്ടങ്ങളാണ് വാഗ്ദാനം ചെയ്യുന്നത്. ടോൾ ബൂത്തുകളിലെ കാത്തുനിൽപ്പ് ‘സീറോ സെക്കൻഡ്’ ആയി മാറുന്നതോടെ വൻതോതിൽ സമയലാഭമുണ്ടാകും. വാഹനം നിർത്തുന്നതും വീണ്ടും സ്റ്റാർട്ട് ചെയ്യുന്നതും ഒഴിവാകുന്നതിലൂടെ വലിയൊരു അളവ് ഇന്ധനം ലാഭിക്കാനും അന്തരീക്ഷ മലിനീകരണം കുറയ്ക്കാനും സാധിക്കും. കൂടാതെ, ചില്ലറയെ ചൊല്ലിയോ സ്കാനിംഗിനെ ചൊല്ലിയോ ടോൾ ജീവനക്കാരുമായി ഉണ്ടാകാറുള്ള തർക്കങ്ങൾക്കും ഇതോടെ അന്ത്യമാകും. പണം കൃത്യമായി ബാങ്ക് അക്കൗണ്ടിൽ നിന്ന് കുറയുന്നതിനാൽ ടോൾ പിരിവിലെ ക്രമക്കേടുകൾ പൂർണ്ണമായും ഒഴിവാക്കാനും സുതാര്യത ഉറപ്പാക്കാനും സർക്കാരിന് സാധിക്കും.

മുൻപ് പണമടയ്ക്കാൻ 10 മിനിറ്റ് വരെ ക്യൂ നിന്നിരുന്ന സ്ഥാനത്ത് ഫാസ്ടാഗ് വന്നതോടെ സമയം ഒരു മിനിറ്റിൽ താഴെയായി കുറഞ്ഞിരുന്നു. പുതിയ മാറ്റം വരുന്നതോടെ ഈ കാത്തിരിപ്പ് പൂർണ്ണമായും ഇല്ലാതാകും. ഇതുവഴി സർക്കാരിന്റെ ടോൾ വരുമാനത്തിൽ പ്രതിവർഷം 5000 കോടി രൂപയുടെ വർദ്ധനവ് ഉണ്ടായതായും മന്ത്രി ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടി. നാഷണൽ പേയ്‌മെൻ്റ് കോർപ്പറേഷൻ ഓഫ് ഇന്ത്യ (NPCI) തയ്യാറാക്കിയ ഏകീകൃത പ്ലാറ്റ്‌ഫോം വഴിയാണ് ഈ പണമിടപാടുകൾ നടക്കുക. യാത്രക്കാരുടെ സ്വകാര്യതയും വിവരങ്ങളുടെ സുരക്ഷയും ഉറപ്പാക്കിക്കൊണ്ട് നടപ്പിലാക്കുന്ന ഈ പദ്ധതി സ്മാർട്ട് ഇന്ത്യയിലേക്കുള്ള ഗതാഗത മേഖലയുടെ വലിയൊരു കുതിച്ചുചാട്ടമായിരിക്കും.

India’s national highways are set for a transformative change with the introduction of an AI-based toll collection system that will eliminate long queues and delays at toll plazas. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari informed the Rajya Sabha that the new system, based on Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) technology, will be implemented across the country by the end of 2026.

Under this advanced mechanism, vehicles will no longer need to slow down or stop at toll plazas. Even vehicles travelling at speeds of up to 80 kmph will have toll charges automatically deducted. AI-powered cameras and sensors installed along highways will identify vehicles through FASTag and seamlessly debit the toll amount from the linked bank account.

While the introduction of FASTag had already reduced waiting times from several minutes to just a few seconds, the upcoming AI-driven system aims to eliminate waiting altogether. The reform is expected to significantly reduce fuel consumption, save travel time, and ease traffic congestion. It will also help curb revenue leakage, minimise human error, and ensure greater transparency in toll collection.

The digital transactions will be managed through a unified platform developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), ensuring uniform tolling standards across states. Emphasising data security and user privacy, the government views this initiative as a major leap towards smarter, more efficient highway infrastructure. Once fully implemented, toll plazas as they exist today may soon become a thing of the past, remembered only as part of an older travel experience.
