By കാസർകോട്: വിയർപ്പൊഴുക്കി പടുത്തുയർത്തിയ ഒരു വീട് കൺമുന്നിൽ വെണ്ണീറാകുന്നത് നോക്കിനിൽക്കേണ്ടി വരുന്നതിലും വലിയൊരു ദുരന്തമില്ല. കൊളക്ക ബയലിലെ പുഷ്പയുടെയും കുടുംബത്തിന്റെയും ജീവിത സമ്പാദ്യം വെറും മിനിറ്റുകൾ കൊണ്ടാണ് ചാരമായി മാറിയത് . ചൊവ്വാഴ്ച രാവിലെ പത്തു മണിയോടെ അടുക്കളയിൽ പാചകം ചെയ്യുന്നതിനിടെ അപ്രതീക്ഷിതമായി ഗ്യാസ് അടുപ്പിൽ നിന്ന് പടർന്ന തീ, നിമിഷനേരം കൊണ്ട് ‘അനുഗ്രഹ നിവാസ്’ എന്ന ആ കൊച്ചു വീടിനെ ഇല്ലാതെയാക്കി . പരേതനായ ഗണപതി ആചാര്യയുടെ ഭാര്യ പുഷ്പയും രണ്ട് മക്കളും അവരുടെ കുടുംബങ്ങളുമടങ്ങുന്ന ഒമ്പതംഗളാണ് വീട്ടിൽ താമസിച്ചിരുന്നത് .
അടുക്കളയിൽ തീ പടരുന്നത് ശ്രദ്ധയിൽപ്പെട്ട വീട്ടിലെ സ്ത്രീകൾ പ്രാണരക്ഷാർത്ഥം പുറത്തേക്ക് ഓടി മാറിയതുകൊണ്ടാണ് വലിയൊരു ജീവഹാനി ഒഴിവായത്. എന്നാൽ, ഉടുതുണിക്ക് മറുതുണി പോലുമില്ലാതെ സർവ്വതും നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട അവസ്ഥയിലാണ് അവരിപ്പോൾ. പുഷ്പയുടെ മക്കളായ ജനാർദ്ദനനും മോഹനനും തങ്ങളുടെ ജോലിസ്ഥലങ്ങളിൽ നിന്ന് ഓടിയെത്തിയപ്പോൾ കണ്ടത് വർഷങ്ങളായുള്ള അധ്വാനത്തിന്റെ ബാക്കിപത്രമായ പുകയുന്ന കൽക്കൂമ്പാരമായിരുന്നു. നാലു മക്കളും സ്കൂളിലായിരുന്ന സമയത്താണ് അപകടം നടന്നത് എന്നതൊന്നു മാത്രമാണ് ആശ്വാസം നൽകുന്ന ഏക കാര്യം.
നാട്ടുകാർ നൽകിയ വിവരമനുസരിച്ച് കാസർകോട് നിന്ന് രണ്ട് യൂണിറ്റ് അഗ്നിരക്ഷാസേന സ്ഥലത്തെത്തി മണിക്കൂറുകളോളം പണിപ്പെട്ടാണ് തീ പൂർണ്ണമായും അണച്ചത്. എന്നാൽ, ഓടുമേഞ്ഞ ആ നാലുമുറി വീടിനുള്ളിലെ ഒന്നും തന്നെ അവശേഷിപ്പിക്കാതെ അഗ്നി ക്രൂരത കാട്ടിയിരുന്നു. വരാനിരിക്കുന്ന ലോൺ അടയ്ക്കാൻ മാറ്റിവെച്ച പണം, ആധാരം, റേഷൻ കാർഡ്, നിർണായകമായ മറ്റ് സർട്ടിഫിക്കറ്റുകൾ എന്നിവയെല്ലാം തീ വിഴുങ്ങി. ടിവിയും മിക്സിയും അലമാരയിലെ വസ്ത്രങ്ങളും കട്ടിലും കിടക്കയുമെല്ലാം പൂർണ്ണമായും കത്തിയമർന്നു. പത്ത് ലക്ഷത്തോളം രൂപയുടെ നഷ്ടമാണ് പ്രാഥമികമായി കണക്കാക്കുന്നത്.
അസിസ്റ്റന്റ് സ്റ്റേഷൻ ഓഫീസർ ആർ. വിനോദ് കുമാറിന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ ഫയർഫോഴ്സ് സംഘവും, ജനപ്രതിനിധികളും, വില്ലേജ് ഓഫീസർമാരും സ്ഥലത്തെത്തി രക്ഷാപ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ ഏകോപിപ്പിച്ചു. ഒരു ചെറിയ അശ്രദ്ധയിൽ നിന്ന് തുടങ്ങിയ തീ അണയുമ്പോൾ ഒരു കുടുംബത്തിന്റെ വർത്തമാനവും ഭാവി സ്വപ്നങ്ങളുമാണ് നിലച്ചുപോയത്.

There is no greater tragedy than watching a home built through years of hard work turn to ashes before one’s eyes. The lifetime savings of Pushpa and her family at Kolakka Bayal were reduced to ashes within minutes on Tuesday morning. The fire broke out around 10 a.m. while cooking in the kitchen, after flames suddenly spread from a gas stove and engulfed their small house named ‘Anugraha Nivas’.
The house was the only shelter for a nine-member family comprising Pushpa, the wife of late Ganapathi Acharya, her two sons Janardhana and Mohana, and their families. The women in the house managed to escape in time upon noticing the fire, thereby avoiding a major loss of life. However, the family was left with nothing, without even clothes to wear.
When Pushpa’s sons rushed home from their workplaces, they were greeted by the heartbreaking sight of a smouldering pile of debris — all that remained of years of hard labour. The accident occurred while four children of the family were at school, which remains the only small relief amid the devastation.
According to locals, two fire force units from Kasaragod reached the spot and battled the flames for hours before bringing the fire under control. Despite their efforts, the tiled-roof, four-room house was completely gutted. Cash kept aside for loan repayment, land documents, ration card, and other vital certificates were destroyed. Household items including a television, mixer, cupboards, clothes, beds, and furniture were completely burnt.
The preliminary estimate of the loss stands at nearly ₹10 lakh. Fire and rescue operations were led by Assistant Station Officer R. Vinod Kumar, with the support of local representatives and village officials. What began as a minor accident has left an entire family’s present and future dreams in ruins.
